The history of baby food, Up until the middle of the 19th century baby food was generally made at home

was invented by Justus von Leibig. It was a powdered formula made from potassium bicarbonate, wheat flour, and malt flour. It was added to warmed cow's milk. The product was widely sold in Europe.throughout Europe foods made of protein, carbohydrates, and fats, and  combined into a replica of mother's milk? In1867 the Baron introduced Liebig's Soluble Food for Babies in the European market.  Manufactured and sold in London by the Liebig's Registered Concentrated Milk Company and then later onto the United states.
 
First large production scaled baby foods were invented by scientists/nutrition experts in the mid-19th century by innovative companies. These were infant formulas, substitutes for a mother's milk. back then tainted milk was often connected with a lot of baby deaths. Then, as now, there was much controversy regarding the use of artifical baby food.  by the 1980s a number of sources spread the news that artificial feeding was both scientific and modern.
 
Gerber's launched its new baby food line in 1928 with a special promtion intended to get mothers to try the product and create a demand for the item in retail grocers stores it still feature a charcoal baby picture on the front in promotions and also baby wear products.
 
Back in the 1970's even my brother born premature and was fed on carnation milk to survive.
