article written by Sheila Sudlow
More and more am I annoyed at getting to my local supermarket to find prices rising from 48p to £1.15 for sausages to a silly price of finding them this week at 16p what is going on? Any way here are my top 10 tips to help us mums curb spending in a credit crunch and save us a fortune in the meantime.
1 Take notice of the prices you pay for regular items, and when they have gone really, really low buy double and freeze what you can for another day.
2. Buy extras on the buy one get one free items that you really do use NOT what has just caught your eyes as you are passing buy for example washing up liquids( supermarkets strategically place items at the front of the doors etc to make you buy them when you don’t need them)
3. Feed the children and give them a comic or something to read as you go shopping. They won’t keep asking you to buy them a new toy or that bag of sweets so you’ll save money at the checkout.
4. Buy t shirts in the sales that can be worn at any time of the year. They don’t go out of fashion as some dresses or shorts do.
5. Have a day out at a market to buy your fruit and veg, Take a shopping trolley and take the bus and a couple of sandwiches, why not go with a friend to make a day of it you’ll find them much cheaper than the supermarket we visit every fortnight and save loads.
6. Find a cheap freezer shop as locally as possible, you’ll find they sell a lot of the supermarkets brands without the packaging boxes or one item may be a little squashed. You’ll save pounds by doing so.
7. Sew your child’s clothes when they are a little worn, I know it’s the hassle but you can’t always find school trousers towards the end of term only at the start.
